“I have always been a maker. I’ve intuitively sought new creative interests and, I’ll readily have a go at anything to build new skills and satisfy my curiosity. I then reflect, edit, adapt and combine ideas to create pieces that are truly my own.”

Meet the Maker - Kylie Heidrich

Wife, mother and former primary school teacher, Kylie moved from Brisbane to the Northern Tablelands town of Tenterfield, NSW with her family in 2018. Seeking a space-filled, country lifestyle the family quickly fell in love with the area and its warm, friendly and creative people.

Kylie’s studio is on a small picturesque family farm on the outskirts of town. Here, Kylie hand builds functional and decorative ceramics pieces. Her range includes tableware, vases and bottles, jewellery, a beautiful range of soy candles in ceramic vessels and an annual, ever popular Christmas ornament collection.

She combines the traditional techniques of slab building, pinching and coiling to create beautiful ceramic wares. Hand building, as opposed to wheel throwing really allows the ‘hand of the maker’ to shine through in each finished item.

Every piece is slightly different.

Every piece is perfectly imperfect.

Highly influenced by her new surroundings and quieter life, Kylie’s ceramics feature botanical prints, delicate patterns, textured carvings and simple phrases to remind us to slow down and take notice. She utilises gentle, neutral tones in stoneware clay and food safe glazes to soothe the soul and complement your decor.

When Kylie is not hand crafting ceramics, she is painting, drawing, sewing or printmaking. Alternatively, you will find her planting and harvesting in the veggie garden or spending quality time in the paddock with her husband and 2 sons and their ever-increasing herd of Speckle Park cattle.

Kylie is a member of the local makers and artists collective, Make It Tenterfield INC.
